Implementation Period: June 2009 – May 2011
Countries: Nepal
Donor: Danida
Level of Funding: USD 180,000
Program Area: Program Area 3: Support to NMHSs in Provision of Localized Hydro-Meteorological Risk Information
Project Status: Completed

Project Description:

The project aims to support the strengthening of Nepal’s national capacity for flood risk reduction and adaptation to climate change by improving data processing capabilities and enable the generation of user-friendly climate and flood risk information for decision-making. Key activities include the customization of meso-scale forecasting system (WRF) for Nepal domain; the validation and improvement of the meso-scale modeling system; the assessment and design of appropriate flood forecasting model for a priority basin (Bagmati); flood risk mapping for model basin based on high-resolution digital elevation model; training and capacity building on weather and flood forecasting, and forecast application; and weather and flood forecasting model and technology transfer to DHM
