The project aims to establish RIMES regional center for tsunami warning, with capabilities to receive and process seismic, sea level, and deep ocean data; evaluate data to assess tsunamigenic potential, and prepare and disseminate earthquake alerts and tsunami watch to RIMES Member States. Key activities include the design of tsunami watch provision system, which includes real/ near real-time data acquisition, data management, threat assessment, and earthquake and tsunami alert dissemination systems according to UNESCO/IOC standards for tsunami warning in the Indian Ocean; regional center site preparation; equipment acquisition; on-site installation and telemetry; and system integration, customization, and reliability testing.
